Deacon Winslow Churchill was the first landowner before many newcomers arrived along with the Galena and Chicago Railway, which boosted its population and offered transportation for the residents. The name Glen Ellyn, however, was adopted after the creation of the lake Glen Ellyn.

Public Transportation in Glen Ellyn
Located in the heart of the downtown business district is the Glen Ellyn station, which is serviced by the Metra Union Pacific West Line (a commuter rail line by the Union Pacific Railroad in Chicago).
It is also 22.4 miles away from the Ogilvie Transportation Center, a commuter terminal in Downtown Chicago, which the working residents use to commute to the city.
The community is also served by Pace bus to meet suburban transportation needs, and it takes routes 301, 714, and 715, which passes through Roosevelt Road and also provides access to Interstate 355.
