Pierce Downer traveled from New York to Illinois and founded Downers Grove in 1832, which only took off after the railroads of Chicago, Quincy and Burlington extended through the village, which boosted its population.

Downers Grove has earned a ‘Tree City USA Designation’ because of the multitude of botanical gardens, lush forest preserves, and residential parks that contribute to its beauty.

Education in Downers Grove
Downers Grove is said to have the most educated citizens in the nation owing to its academic excellence.
The village is home to sixteen public schools, 13 elementary, two middle schools, and two high schools. However, the two high schools fall under the Community High School District 99 and serve Downers Grove, Lisle, Woodbridge, Westmont, and Oakbridge.
There are also a couple of religious and private schools in the village, such as the renowned Avery Coonley School and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
Climate in Downers Grove
Downers Grove experiences a humid continental climate and enjoys about 192 sunny days in a year. Winters tend to be much colder, and the village gets 39 inches of rain and 30 inches of snow annually, which is a bit higher than the US average of 28 inches.
September and August are pleasant months and are neither too warm nor too cold. However, June and July are moderate, with temperatures hovering at around 84 degrees.
The village also experiences a steep drop in temperatures to 15 degrees Fahrenheit in the months of December and January and experiences some form of precipitation 120 days of the year.
Public Transportation in Downers Grove
The primary form of transportation in Downers Grove is the BNSF Railway Line that is serviced by the Metra commuter rail. It has three stops in the village, down at Fairview Avenue, Belmont Road, and Main Street. The three stations provide its residents with a quick commute to the city in around 25 minutes by the express train.
The community also has access to Interstate Highways 355 and 88 and is served by the Pace Bus for suburban public transportation. The Grove Commuter Shuttle also services four routes in the community to two train stations and north and south high schools.

The charming community of Downers Grove has spread out over 14.67 square miles and had a population of 49,387 as of 2018. Apart from its strategic location, with Interstate 355 and 88 running through the village, it has a robust economy that is home to booming businesses.
There are ample entertainment centers, forest preserves, botanical gardens, restaurants, hotels, and shopping spots located in the community. The Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital anchors its healthcare system, while there are plenty of clinics available.
The business industry continues to grow and offers residents employment in manufacturing, retail, and technology.
